Ethics Reform

Three cheers for the New York State Senate passing what looks like serious ethics reform. After years of corruption in Albany, this vote significantly raises the bar of disclosure and accountability for elected officials.

Leadership

Let me start by saying CHANGE is good! Change in the way Albany does business, that is.

Heating Crisis

Democrats in the State Senate have introduced a proposal to extend home heating aid to middle-class families and increase the benefit for low-income households.

Tax Relief

The bill - touted by Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and passed by his chamber, 118-24 - would raise $2.6 billion by adding two new tax brackets for New Yorkers making more than $1 million a year.

You schmooze, you lose

(The Record) – Wednesday, February.03, 2010

While there are several groups that are proactive when it comes to helping people find jobs, elected officials are not among them.

We seem to have some local politicians who think that as long as they get their picture in the local newspapers three times a week they're doing their job. How pathetic and how egotistic can they be.

Grinning at a camera doesn't justify drawing a salary paid for with taxpayers dollars while many of those same taxpayers can't find work for themselves to support their families.

This November, voters are going to send a clear message to the long-term incumbents playing the "shmooze" game. Goodbye and good luck.
